Earth Problems - @Upnorthfest

Last weekend (28th-29th of septmber 2013) we were kindly invited to take part in this years ‘Upnorthfest’ in Sunderland, in the north of the UK.

Upnorthfest is the Norths version of Upfest which usually takes part in Bristol every summer. The Upnorthfest is a festival of celebrating street and graffiti art which takes part in Southport and Sunderland. The festival organised by the super sound Frank Styles of Sunderland brought together some great artists from around the UK, painting on 16walls, 7 buildings, and 21 boards over 3 days.

Some of the dope artists included: Kelzo, Irony, Inch, Sune, Razeone, Eyes, Toupe, T rex, Eyes, Id-iom, The super fun Girls on top crew and many more including myself.

I rolled up to the festival on Saturday morning after finding a rather hungover familiar face(Daddy Sune) on the newcastle metro system. We caught up on graffiti, drunken antics, tales and creative projects on our way to Sunderland…Sune was a big inspiration growing up in the city of Leeds, he’s probably one of the greatest writers in country, but still humble as ever.

After getting shown to my spot I commenced unpacking my seriously over stacked paint out of my several bags…I managed to hold onto the scaffold for the day to get the top elements of my ‘Earth Problems’ piece painted up.

Throughout the day I met many new people, writers, excited passers by, some old friends and a quite a few ‘Eject’/ep crew fans, some of which had already purchased a few of our dope tees!! Big ups to everyone who we chilled with and chatted to while painting this piece…big ups Nickos, Razeone, Frank Stlyes, Pepsie, Vigo, Burn, and many more!!

After the first day of painting it was time to load up on tasty buds and drinks with the writers at the jam. Quality night out chilling with Sune, The girls on top, Irony and a few other cats who did’nt get thrown out 😉

Big ups and one love to everyone at the jam…the random sun and everyone who took part. And thanks to Bretski at Artofficial for the extra paint 😉

One love – Eject!!

Andrè x Collette x Orangina

Super cool collaboration between two great creatives :Andrè and Collette (paris) redesigning the iconic Orangina bottle.

Andrè (monsieur hat) has used his worldwide recognised characters to make the Orangina bottle into a super cool character.

This is a super cool collaboration …defo think we’ll be purchasing one for the studio!!

Stick em' up punk

This weekend our Liverpool based buddy ‘Beta’ of TDA klan called us up to see if I wanted some of the Yorkshire massive down to Liverpool…they all flopped apart from myself and fellow can technician Ziel…So we caught a early morning lift to Liverpool via the National depressed.

It’s always good to go back to my old stomping/stamping grounds to see the scouseside writers!! Many of the younger wave of writers were influenced by some of my demon buddies throughout their cool city…and seeing these guys now painting and painting burners is really good to see. Top chaps the lot of em!!

Ziel and I then met up with Beta and Cruel and commenced to prime our wall in the nasty British rain…Several soaked sketchbooks later, a few knocked over Heinekens and soggy rizlas later we persevered through the rain and painted a nice wall.

Big ups to Beta, Cruel, Ziel, Fish, Nate, Sy, and any others who I have forgot. Good day, now to dry off the sketchbook!

The Battle of Waterloo 2012 – Chrome and Black event

Image

A few weeks back I had the pleasure of attending and taking part in Chrome and Blacks annual graffiti jam ‘The Battle of Waterloo’ 2012 help under the Old Vic tunnels under Waterloo station.

It was my first time taking part in the event and the first time painting the Old Vic tunnels. Throughout the day there was tons of graffiti artists battling for a cash prize provided by the good chaps at Chrome and Black.

There were some seriously good writers down at the battle…very heavy London based letter styles, which is good to see (We dont have many London in the hills of Yorkshire), some quality characters too!

Big ups to Chrome and Black for arranging a quality set of writers together, and it was quality to see some old faces, new faces and meet a few people who I’d only spoke to digitally before.

Shouts to: Pow, Zomby, Chock, Akit, Yanni, Binty, My cousins and all the other mad heads I chilled with and spoke to that day!!

These Flicks were taken by an amazing photographer and nice chap Brian David Stevens. You can find the rest of Brian’s photo’s from the event here at : http://www.briandavidstevens.com/project/graffiti-/ or here at: http://driftingcamera.blogspot.co.uk/

Mark Bode in Amsterdam 2012 (Da Bode in Amsterdam)

Image

Last weekend Majorkuts (Ejecto’s photographer) and I set off to Amsterdam for a messy weekend away from the graphics and design work, to celebrate my birthday.

Amsterdam is always a whirlwind of a place , hardly no sleep the weeks before locking down the graphics for various clients. As soon as you reach Schipol airport you can feel the buzz of Amsterdam, then it’s a quick hop on the train…25 minutes later we’re having breakfast in one my favorite coffeeshops ‘The Greenhouse’. Greenhouse breakfasts are a beast and with their various awards for the other goods on the menu you know your in for a treat! You can see some of Majorkuts favorite selections from our trip can be seen here: http://majorkuts.tumblr.com/

After a few days of cold chilling out and partying in Amsterdam with some new friends, some old friends and many hours of foot stomping, on the sunday we stumbled into a Mark Bode exhibition. We were actually lost looking for some croissants fully engrossed in that Euro scran…we had passed a closed London Police exhibition at the ‘Go Gallery’, looking through the window there was some great pieces. The Bode exhibition was held over on the Singel canal at the Articks gallery, a small and cool feeling lil place.

Walking through the door we were greeted by the gallery owner and started checking out the great pieces on NY subway maps, giant spraycans and sketches all over the place. While staring at one of the pieces a guy in a New York style flatcap and oakleys pops over…my eyes were a lil fuzzy at the time being in Amsterdam, the chap introduces himself as Mark Bode, Comic book artist/Author/graffiti artist and tattooist son of the late great Vaughn BodÄ“.

Mark Bode was a really nice guy and talked with us for ages about NY, his time in Amsterdam, His new works and travels. Quality guy who was eager to do a lil doodle in my travel pad.

Quality lil cherry on the top of our space cakes to end the weekend. Big ups Mark Bode…proper legend!!

Maxi Jazz rocking out in Ejecto’s

Image

A couple of weeks ago I was just shotting out some tee orders, finishing up some logos and getting my self together to hit the West Yorkshire Cypher at ExP’s yard (WYcypher is a local West Yorkshire based hiphop mc freestyle cypher http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKGrSHSwKs8)…I’m just about to get out the house and my phone rings LSK again “Yo I@* get ursen round…Maxi’s in town” …Everything is swiftly dropped, jets round to see the boys!

I’d first met Maxi Jazz (Faithless frontman, singer, songwriter, DJ and all round quality geezer!) on the last leg of the last ever Faithless tour in the Manchester MEN 2011. Maxi already knew of my work through LSK, as I usually send him picture messages of pretty much most of my pieces…so Maxi had been updated with graf flicks all along their touring. After meeting Maxi a few times I’d honestly say he’s one of the nicest guys ever, such a positive influence to everyone who seems to come in contact with him.

So I get myself round to the studio where LSK and Maxi greet me with man hugs and handshakes…we share chats and giggles, watch some reggae soundclashes on the ole youtube, and then Maxi and LSK get to work working on some jamming sessions. Always a pleasure when Maxi is in town, laid back vibes…no dramas!

Big up to LSK, Gary and Maxi for a chilled and worthy excuse to miss the WYcypher. Big up to LSK and Maxi who won’t take Ejecto freebies as they are big in the game and always insist on paying for things they believe in.

One love to Maxi such a quality guy!! “Look after each other”
